## Core rule

Alert immediately when any critical threshold is crossed, such as a non-200 status or a 5xx from an API.

## Execution Phases

1. **Pick a watch mode** — Default to a single quick check, or run a sustained watch with an interval and duration, or compare staging against production.
2. **Run the checks** — Check HTTP status, console errors, network requests, LCP/CLS/INP, key page elements, API health, static assets and SSE heartbeats.
3. **Classify by threshold** — Compare results to the baseline and sort them into critical, warning and info.
4. **Notify and report** — On critical breaches, send a desktop notification and log it, optionally post to Slack or Discord, then output a canary report table.

## Permissions (summarised from SKILL.md)

| Capability | Needed | Details |
|---|---|---|
| File writes | Limited | Only appends alerts to ~/.claude/canary-watch.log. |
| Command execution | Limited | Used for desktop notifications on macOS or Linux and for repeating checks at an interval. |
| Network outbound | Required | Requests the watched URL and its APIs, static assets and SSE endpoints, and optionally calls Slack or Discord webhooks. |
